NBA Draft 2020: Best prospect fit for each franchise among top 10 picks
By William Cash
6. Atlanta Hawks – Killian Hayes
Atlanta is in a very different situation than Detroit. Atlanta has their young core and an all-star in Trae Young. They have their wings in Cam Reddish and De’Andre Hunter. They have bigs with Clint Capela and John Collins. The problem with Atlanta is that they need some help at the two-guard slot. And I don’t think Kevin Huerter is the answer starting. So why not grab the best combo guard in the draft.
I think what makes Hayes perfect in this slot is their need for an extra playmaker. Young has been the only guy on Atlanta that can make plays for the team and that’s not even his first instinct. Hayes is best as a playmaker and a great pick and roll player which will fit perfectly with Capela and Collins. Hayes is also an excellent on and off-ball defender which is something that Atlanta desperately needed. As the Hawks were one of the worst teams in the NBA in defense last season.
I believe if that Atlanta can’t Hayes at No.6 they should trade the pick. There’s not another prospect that pops out at me and that would fit with their already excellent young core. After not winning at least thirty games the last couple of seasons, it is time for the rebuild to be over in Atlanta. If Atlanta does not at least make the playoffs this season or produce another low win total, look for there to be a coaching change at the end of the season.
