Atlantic 10 Basketball: Ranking of top 20 players from the league since 2000
18. TJ Cline – Richmond Spiders
After an outstanding high school senior year performance, TJ Cline was able to obtain an NCAA Division I scholarship to Niagara. As a freshman, Cline earned Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference all-rookie team. Cline averaged 7.9 points and 4.6 total rebounds per game as a freshman. Although Cline displayed impressive stats, he decided to transfer to Richmond the following season.
The forward would be forced to sit the following season due to ineligibility after choosing to enter the transfer portal.
Cline’s spectacular season came as a senior in 2017 with the Spiders who were looking to make a case for the NCAA tournament. Cline would build up a great reputation as a reliable scorer. In his senior season, Cline averaged 18.6 points and 8.1 rebounds per game. These numbers are some of the best in Atlantic 10 Conference history for a big man of his size. Cline also acquired skilled passing as he averaged 5.7 assists per game which is once again uncommon for a big man caliber like himself.
Cline would go on to be named the Atlantic 10 Player of the Year at the end of that season. Cline would become the second player in Spiders’ history to have won that honor. In addition, Cline finished ranking eighth in points and seventh in assists in Spider history.
Cline would go on to play overseas in Turkey, Israel, and Italy. He would also have the opportunity to represent Israel as a member of the Israeli national basketball team.
