Atlantic 10 Basketball: Ranking of top 20 players from the league since 2000
15. Pat Caroll – Saint Joseph’s Hawks
Pat Caroll was a sensational player for a Saint Joe’s Hawks team that was centered around star talent. The Hawks were led by Head Coach Phil Martelli. They were best known for their NCAA Elite Eight run in the 2003-2004 season, Caroll’s junior year. Caroll would become a key player on this team. The Hawks were poised to win as they had a roster full of players with NBA potential including, Jameer Nelson, Delonte West, and Dwayne Jones.
Although the Hawks played great basketball during Caroll’s junior season, he was best known for his senior year at Saint Joe’s. He averaged 18.3 points in the 35 games he played and started. Caroll would go on to receive Atlantic 10 Co-Player of the Year, the Robert V. Geasey Trophy, and First Team All-Atlantic 10 honors at the season’s finish.
Pat, with his brother, Matt, who started at Notre Dame and would play for several teams in the NBA, would go on to teach a basketball camp for kids looking to improve their skills and learn the basic fundamentals of basketball.
Caroll’s career took off professionally overseas in France, Spain, Valencia, and several other countries. Unfortunately, his career went downhill after injuring his shoulder in a game in Italy which forced him to return back to the United States for surgery and rehabilitation.
