NCAA Basketball: Coveted 2021 C Jonas Aidoo considering 10 schools
By Ian Mumm
4-star big man Jonas Aidoo is one of the most prized recruits nationally and released his list of top-10 NCAA Basketball schools.
Making the first cut in Jonas Aidoo recruitment were Marquette, Providence, North Carolina State, Miami (FL), Georgia, Wake Forest, Tennessee, South Carolina, Houston, and Kansas. The 7-foot Liberty Heights (NC) center has made huge strides this summer and seen one of the busiest NCAA Basketball recruits this summer.
Aidoo repeatedly showed his talents with Team Curry in grassroots competitions and was a consistent presence at nearly every event. Now a consensus 4-star, Aidoo went from being unranked (Rivals.com) and a 3-star (247sports.com) to a fringe top-100 guy. He received 20 D1 offers since the middle of July and only three were from programs outside of the Power 6 conferences.
Division 1 programs have rightfully been salivating over the thought of adding Aidoo to their rosters next season. He has showcased himself as a high-effort big capable of making all the plays at both ends of the floor. He has very strong mobility and coordination to be a defensive anchor and guard multiple positions. However, those traits likewise also make him a candidate to lead the break, intercept passes all over the court, and quickly facilitate the ball to his teammates for easy scoring chances.
Yet Aidoo’s versatility on the floor is likely highest on the offensive end where his shooting touch is soft and accurate. He’s comfortable in quick catch and shoot situations and his range extends effortlessly to the perimeter. His effectiveness as a playmaking center, on both ends of the floor, is a direct result of the high-level awareness he displays as plays develop. Aidoo does a great job of recognizing and adjusting to get open behind defenders and constantly finding ways to put pressure on his opponents.
The overall talent and contributions he provides on the court make him a necessity for the final 10 teams on his list to sign. He is a game-changer and can make immediate impacts, but which situation looks to best provide the opportunity for him to see the court as soon as he steps foot on campus?
