What to Expect from Bryce McGowens?

Ask anyone who follows the Huskers and they will tell you that this team needs an alpha dog who can score at will and change a game. The best teams that Nebraska has had have all had one. James Palmer, Erick Strickland, Shavon Shields, Dave Hoppen, Andre Smith, and Rich King are all players who would fall into that category. McGowens would be expected to fall into that category right away as a freshman and with his talent level, it would be surprising if he didn’t live up to the hype.

The guard is explosive, can shoot from the outside, and plays great defense he is everything you are looking for in a basketball player, hence why he is a five-star recruit. One thing I would like to caution everyone with is please do not put a huge burden on the guard. He is going to be a star and he is going to be just fine but the added undue pressure to save the program is something that should not be put on his shoulders.

The incoming freshman is going to be an immediate starter and with the expected roster for the 2021-2022 season, the Huskers are going to have upgraded expectations. The guard should instantly be one of the better point guards in the Big Ten.

McGowens has an uncanny ability to see things happening on the floor before they happen. He has one of the best basketball IQs of any player in recent memory and with his ability on both ends of the floor he can change a game in a ton of ways.

Will McGowens eventually have his number retired by the Huskers?  That remains to be seen but Husker fans will never forget him as he was the first one of hopefully many elite recruits to play basketball here.
