NBA Draft 2020: Best/worst fits for this year’s consensus lottery picks
By Trevor Marks
Devin Vassell, W, Florida State
Best: Every NBA Team
Devin Vassell is the best team defender in the class, plays at one of the more valuable positions in the NBA, rarely makes mistakes when out on the floor, and has flashed real, tangible upside as a tough shot-maker in addition to his already-consistent three-point shooting.
He is skinny and his off-the-dribble game will need to continue improving, but all accounts point to Vassell being an absolute gym rat who doesn’t settle. Any team picking in the lottery or mid-teens would benefit immensely from acquiring him.
If the Knicks forego drafting a point guard, his defense and spacing would complement RJ Barrett nicely on the wing and would absolutely please coach Tom Thibodeau. If Golden State trades into the back-half of the lottery and wants a win-now player, then Vassell is their guy.
If the Hawks, Suns, Spurs, Kings, and Pelicans want to add a defensive-minded wing who can play without the ball, then he’s their guy. If Boston is looking to add yet another versatile two-way player to their already-deep cache of wing talent, then, yes, he’s their guy.
Worst: None
Is it a cop-out to say that no team would be a poor fit? Absolutely, but when considering that any team in his draft range could use his services, it’s hard to say otherwise.
