Key reserves

Jamal Mashburn Jr. – Freshman – Guard

The bench of Minnesota is where the inexperience and youth are shown.

The tough task of backing up Marcus Carr this season will be done by multiple guys, most notably 4-star freshman Jamal Mashburn Jr.

Mashburn will be able to provide a spark off the bench very early and will probably see around 10-15 minutes per game. His scoring ability along with his versatility will provide many options for Pitino when Carr needs a breather.

Tre’ Williams – Sophomore – Guard

Tre’ Williams is a guy that struggled at times but got some meaningful minutes last season as a freshman. Playing in 31 games, Williams averaged just over 3 points per game along with 2 rebounds.

He’ll be in the mix to potentially back up Gach or Kalscheur at a shooting guard or a wing position in 2020. His ability to knock down threes when asked upon will be critical for spacing and his confidence.

Isaiah Ihnen – Sophomore – Forward

Splitting time with Brandon Johnson at the forward position will be sophomore Isaiah Ihnen. Ihnen saw the floor in a limited role as a freshman but picked up the pace as the season went on.

Although he didn’t have many attempts, Ihnen is a capable three-point shooter, knocking down 17 of his 45 looks from beyond the arc last season. His shooting ability along with his 6’9 frame will allow him to stretch out and make plays for Minnesota this season.

Jarvis Omersa – Junior – Forward

Omersa will be looked at as someone who needs to take a big leap in his junior season. After seeing very limited minutes in his first two seasons for Minnesota, Omersa will see his role expand in 2020.

At 6’6, Omersa is a high flier who has the ability to get above the rim at any point. Not known as a shooter, he will have to contribute around the rim and defensively.

Look for the junior to improve in his third season.
