B.J. Boston averages 20 points

Needless to say, Coach Jon Calipari did it again as Kentucky Basketball has the top incoming class in all of Division I Basketball. The freshmen making up this class include two five-star guards and four additional four-star players, which means all six land in the top 52 of the RSCI.

Despite the fact that Kentucky has ‘guys’ there is one who will stand out and not just among his teammates, but in the SEC as well as challenging Cade Cunningham for the USBWA Freshman of the Year. That freshman will be a 6’6 guard from Sierra Canyon B.J Boston.

Without getting too deep into Boston’s scouting report, Boston can flat out score. He can do it by getting to the rim, hitting the mid-range, and knocking it down from beyond the arc. The style of play that was implemented at Sierra Canyon will serve Boston well at Kentucky.

Not only is Boston going to score, but he will do so at a pace that has only been seen by a freshman once since the 1992-93 season. The pace that Boston will meet is one that will have him averaging 20 points per game.

To put that in perspective, the only freshman to do so since the 1992-93 season was Jamal Murray who averaged exactly 20 points during 2015-16. Even more impressive, Anthony Edwards averaged 19.1 points per game last season. With Coach Calipari needing to replace 94 percent of his scoring from last season, the Bluegrass Showcase will provide a valuable warm-up before battling Kansas on Dec 1.
