Clemson Basketball: 2020-21 season preview for the Tigers
By William Cash
What should we expect from Brad Brownell and Clemson Basketball this season?
Clemson basketball fans have to be tired of the constant mediocrity over the past couple of years from Brad Brownell’s teams. Besides a 2018 Sweet 16 appearance, Clemson has only made the NCAA Tournament two out of the ten years Brownell has been there.
Last year was similar to most years under Brownell’s tenure at Clemson. The Tigers finished 16-15 and a 9-11 record in ACC play. Before the cancelation of last year’s ACC Tournament, the Tigers finished the season off with a victory over Miami. With no chance of making the NCAA Tournament unless they won the conference tournament.
The good news for Clemson is that almost all of their rotational players are coming back. Including top player Aamir Simms who averaged 12 points and seven rebounds on 47% shooting. With a lot of other key players like John Newman, Al-Amir Dawes, and Clyde Trapp who all averaged at least 25 min a game last season.
The Tigers also come into this season with a highly-touted recruiting class, that ranked 20th nationally and 4th in the ACC. This included players like P.J. Hall who was the top player in South Carolina, the top international player in Olivier-Maxence Prosper, and another four-star recruit in Lynn Kidd.
There’s a chance for Tigers fans to be excited this year. The majority of their rotation returns with a team that was 9th in the ACC last year. With a stellar recruiting class, Brad Brownell has a lot of talent for the 2020-2021 season. Let’s take an in-depth look at the Clemson roster and schedule for the 2021 season.
