TV Schedule: Big Ten Network

Maryland basketball the Midshipmen meet again this college basketball season. This matchup is a part of a three-team multi-team event featuring the Terps, Midshipmen, and Mount St. Mary’s Mountaineers this week.

The Terps handed them a 78-57 loss back in 2018. Anthony Cowan Jr. scored a game-high 24 points to go along with six assists and four steals. Jalen Smith and Bruno Fernando combined for 19 points and 15 rebounds. Darryl Morsell provided them a spark off the bench with 15 points and six rebounds.

The Terps have quite a few newcomers on the squad at key positions. It will be worthwhile to keep an eye on the development of guards three-star guards Aquan Smart and Marcus Dockery. Both of them will be situated behind veteran leaders Eric Ayala and Morsell in the backcourt.

In the frontcourt, the Terps look strong thanks to the additions of Jairus Hamilton, Arnaud Revaz, Galin Smith, and sophomores Chol Marial and Donta Scott will be looking to have solid sophomore campaigns. While there were question marks in the offseason about what this mark would look like, the Terps are going to be fine with this group.

The Navy Midshipmen finished the 2019-20 season with a 14-16 (8-10 Patriot League) record. Guards Cam Davis (16.3 ppg, 2.6 rpg, 2.5 apg) and John Carter Jr. (10.6 ppg, 4.9 rpg) led the way for the team last year. The strength of their team is in their guards and while they have talented big men, their frontcourt lacks size and length.

Even with the Terps loss of key starters and new look in the frontcourt, Navy doesn’t have enough to overpower them. The Terps would have to do a terrible job at taking care of the basketball and a few other things would have to go wrong for the streak to be broken.
