Alabama Basketball: Takeaways from victory over Jacksonville State
Jahvon Quinerly and James Rojas Impress in First Game with Alabama
November 25th, 2020 was a long-awaited day for Jahvon Quinerly as the former five-star recruit was forced to miss the 2019-20 season as he wasn’t given an immediate eligibility waiver by the NCAA. With that, Quinerly made his Alabama debut on Wednesday night and was impressive, to say the least.
Quinerly went for 18 points, three assists, one rebound, and an assist on 7-12 shooting. The 18 points tied Quinerly for the game-high and was also his collegiate career-high. Quinerly was more than impressive as he was able to score from almost anywhere on his 22nd birthday, 19 months after his last game.
Quinerly is going to be key for the Crimson Tide this season as he will be relied upon to fill the shoes left behind by Kira Lewis. Quinerly is going to get 25+ minutes per game, and he needs to be a source of offense for the Tide if this team is going to succeed, and that’s exactly what he did on Wednesday.
The other player who impressed in his Alabama debut was James Rojas. Rojas recorded eight points, seven rebounds, and an assist, off the bench as he helped Alabama win their first game of the season.
Rojas missed the 2019-20 season as he tore his ACL prior to the start of the season. Rojas transferred to play for the Tide after being named a junior-college All-American while playing at Hutchinson Community College. Rojas was 3-8 from the field and even hit a three, which is a good sign for Alabama.
We will likely see Rojas get some starts at some point down the road, but so far his debut is enough to get Alabama fans excited for what’s to come.
