Which teams suffered some early Bracketology setbacks for the 2020-21 season?

Coming into this 2020-21 season it was hard to tell what to expect when it came to overall Bracketology. The only thing we do know is that there will be 68 Division 1 programs that will be competiting in March in the NCAA Tournament, and 31 conferences (excluding the Ivy League) will be having their respective non-conference tournaments.

After that, everything else is on a day-to-day basis. Every day, we have teams pausing due to Covid-19 positive tests, and games being canceled or postponed as a result. So far, dozens of games have been wiped off the board. However, a number have been created on the fly, with some just on hours’ notice.

One of them was No. 3 Villanova taking on Virginia Tech, as they were looking for another game in “Bubbleville”. That turned out to be a mistake, with the Hokies beating the Wildcats in an upset, making them the third top-6 ranked team to lose in just the first four games of the young season.

The good news for Villanova is that Virginia Tech doesn’t look like they’ll be a “bad” loss the rest of the way. They also already have wins over both Boston College and Arizona State from the 2K Empire Classic, so there’s no way to declare the Wildcats true “losers” when it comes to early resume building.

However, there are several programs that you can say that for. These are teams with NCAA Tournament or high seed aspirations that fell early, digging themselves a hole in this new cramped non-conference schedule. It’s early but you never want to have many negatives on your resume.

Here are the five biggest losers in terms of Bracketology.
