Defense Needs Work

In the first game against CCSU UConn really struggled to get stops on defense but eventually were able to put the game away early in the second half. Giving up 75 points is something that certainly stood out and something that needs to be addressed. Part of that comes down to effort and you could definitely see a big difference in the second game against Hartford.

The defense against Hartford still wasn’t great, UConn had a great first 15 minutes of the game from an effort standpoint, they were creating chaos and were able to get out in transition for easy baskets. As the game went on it felt like the guards were getting blown by and there was a lot of reach in fouls as a result. Ticky tack or not UConn can not be allowing teams like Hartford to get to the line 27 times.

UConn just like last season, there’s going to be a block party every game. With 15 blocks through their first two games, the big guys have done well to guard the rim. You’d like to see the guards and wingers do a better job of staying in front of their men, and making life a little more difficult getting to the basket, it’s a work in progress.
