An abundance of depth and athleticism

This Huskies team is deep, they’re talented, they’re athletic and it was on full display in the first two games of the season. This is a rotation that is legitimately 10 deep. The talent is there but it was obvious that things weren’t clicking right away, part of that can probably be attributed to the two week quarantine period.

Andre Jackson has had some growing pains early on but you can see the flashes of talent he has. Something Hurley made a note of after the Hartford game was about his team needing to grow up. It felt like for long stretches of the Hartford game the Huskies showed their inexperience and immaturity.

Offensively the Huskies have relied a lot on their three-point shooting early and the Huskies struggled to generate offense for a long portion of the Hartford game when shots weren’t falling. For the CCSU game, it felt like the Huskies never took their foot off the gas. UConn had 33 bench points against CCSU and just 16 against Hartford. UConn needs the bench to continue to contribute, it felt like Hurley was relying on the starters a lot more in the second game.

UConn should get better as they go on, there’s a lot of young guys on this roster, and the more games they get under their belt the better they are going to be. Conference play is right around the corner.
