Baylor Basketball: Takeaways from victory over Washington Huskies
By Dave Ackert
Baylor Basketball took care of business in a win over the Washington Huskies.
Baylor Basketball has gotten off to a strong start to the season, as expected. After scrambling to find new opponents in the last week and planning two games verse two new opponents on the opposite side of the country as previously planned, the Bears came out of the #VegasBubble 2-0 and without the help of Head Coach, Scott Drew being there in person.
Jerome Tang directed the Bears to the team’s first two victories of the 2020-21 season. Tang has been on Scott Drew’s staff for all 18 years since Drew has been the Head Coach at Baylor. Tang is now 4-0 as acting head coach after going 2-0 in 2012-13 and 2-0 to start this season.
Drew is expected to rejoin the Bears next weekend in Indianapolis, after being in a 10-day isolation period after testing positive for COVID-19. The Bears are scheduled to play top-ranked Gonzaga and fifth-ranked Illinois.
So, after the second-ranked Bears gave up 82 points to Louisiana-Lafayette and let the Ragin’ Cajuns shoot 52% from the field on Saturday, Tang said he wasn’t “a happy camper” with the defense. I think the message may have gotten through to the team come Sunday against Washington. Baylor held the Huskies to just 36% shooting.
