Duke Basketball took on Michigan State Tuesday as apart of the annual Champions Classic, but it didn’t exactly go the way Blue Devil fans had hoped.

The Duke Blue Devils played their second game of the season on Tuesday against the eighth-ranked Michigan State Spartans. The matchup marks the fifth consecutive season the two have played one another, and with the Spartans’ 75-69 win, Duke Basketball’s lead over those five games becomes 3-2.

This was also the first time Tom Izzo has won in Cameron Indoor Stadium, and is only Duke’s second home loss to a non-conference opponent, since 2000, the other coming last year against Stephen F. Austin.

With this loss, Duke falls to 1-1 on the season with their next game being on Thursday against Bellarmine. As for this game, Duke played a fantastic 13 minutes to start the game off but really fell off after that.

Duke led by as much as 10 in the first half and didn’t fall behind until Michigan State got their first lead of the game with 2:44 to go in the first half. After Michigan State took the lead, they didn’t look back and the Blue Devils wouldn’t go back ahead for the remainder of the game.

Michigan State had two players register double-doubles as Joey Hauser went for 11 points and 10 rebounds, and Malik Hall went for 10 points and 10 rebounds off the bench. In addition to Hauser and Hall, the Spartans had three other players score double-digit points.

Overall, there were a lot of things that went wrong for the Blue Devils throughout the game, but they also did a couple of things well. So let’s take a look at some of the takeaways from Tuesday’s game:
