They have not replaced Dotson and Azubuike

Not only is this an understatement, but it is a very difficult task to achieve for Dotson and Azubuike are near impossible to replace. Clearly, Coach Self benefitted from having Dotson and Azubuike on Kansas last season, for game plans, are much easier implemented with two members of the All-Big 12 team being the focal point.

There is also an aspect of how those two fit into Coach Self’s system, and with their absence, the offensive sets lack an identity.

Coaches recruit players to fit their system and consequently only have to tweak their offense to the strengths of their roster. While Bryce Thompson and Muscadin have the potential to eventually fill the role of Dotson and Azubuike (at a lower level) the 2020-21 Jayhawks are forced to result to alternative methods.

Marcus Garrett and Jalen Wilson are emerging as the top 55 recruits they were and Christian Braun along with Ochai Agbaji join them in creating four starters who average double digits in points, but nothing comes easy.
