Gonzaga takes on Baylor to decide who the best team in the country is.

TV schedule: Saturday, December 5, 1:00 pm ET. CBS

Arena: Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, Indiana

It’s been a great week for college basketball in the early part of the season. We’ve had the Maui Invitational, Champions Classic, and the Jimmy V Classic, featuring over 10 of the current top 17 ranked teams in the country. Two of those are Baylor and Gonzaga, who each got major wins on Wednesday in the Jimmy V Classic.

Gonzaga (3-0) defeated West Virginia in a game that had a major storyline beyond the score. Star freshman guard Jalen Suggs went down with a non-contact injury to his lower leg and looked to be in serious pain. It was thought online to be a potentially season-ending Achilles tear but fortunately, he was able to return in the second half for the rest of the game.

Suggs played second-fiddle to both Andrew Nembhard and Joel Ayayi, who combined to score 40 points in Gonzaga’s 87-82 win. Corey Kispert had 19 and despite a miserable first-half, big man Drew Timme finished with 17 points in the game. Add already a win over the Kansas Jayhawks, the Bulldogs are now looking for another top-tier win over a Big 12 opponents.

This one will be their toughest yet in the Baylor Bears (3-0). They’re coming off a convincing 82-69 win over No. 5 Illinois, led by 18 points off the bench from Adam Flager. He’s been as impressive as the three starting guards (MaCio Teague, Jared Butler, and Davion Mitchell), who all reached double figures against the Illini.

With Mark Vital and UNLV transfer Jonathan Tchamwa Tchatchoua having a big impact in the frontcourt, the Bears check all boxes and can make the argument that they’re the best team in the nation. Of course, Gonzaga with a healthy Jalen Suggs can give them the same argument. With elite coaching staffs, experience, and great individual talent, this should be a great game on Saturday that’ll determine who the true No. 1 team in the nation is.

dark. Next. Baylor vs Gonzaga key storylines

A big unknown factor in this game will be how healthy Suggs will be in this contest. If he’s good to go, Gonzaga’s inside play will give them an edge. If not, Butler and the rest of the Bears’ perimeter, will be too much for the Bulldogs perimeter.

Prediction: Baylor 84 – Gonzaga 80
