Evaluating the Big Ten All-Freshman Team

The prerequisites to be considered one of the top freshmen in the Big Ten are: stand-out in a stat category, the skill required to tally up those stats and you have to play an integral part in whatever success your team achieves.

The 2019-20 Big Ten All-Freshman Team included the three highest scorers per game, the freshman with the most three-point field goals made, and a freshman who started 16 of 27 games for the team who shared the Big Ten Regular Season Championship.

With those prerequisites in mind, the Big Ten All-Freshman team will look more traditional as it will consist of two guards, two forwards, plus a center. The center position will go to Michigan center Hunter Dickinson, despite not starting, he is averaging 21 minutes per game and is very important to the Wolverines’ offense, regardless of its lack of identity. Whatever amount of victories Michigan gets in the Big Ten, the 7’3 center will be enough part of it to get the selection over Purdue’s Zach Edey.

Rounding out the frontcourt will be Iowa’s 6’8 forward Keegan Murray who is part of a line-up that has a balanced offensive attack, plus Luka Garza. The other forward will be Zed Key the 6’8 forward for Ohio State, who averages the third-most points on Ohio State while averaging the seventh-most minutes. Ohio State is a small team, but Key’s 245 pounds is instrumental in clogging up the key and clearing the boards.

The backcourt will consist of a 6’4 guard from Indiana Trey Galloway, who was considered an afterthought once Khristian Landers decided to go to Bloomington, but the extra 25 pounds Galloway has on Landers is making a difference in the Big Ten, as Galloway is able to get to the painted area for shot attempts.

The final spot in the backcourt will go to Illinois guard Adam Miller. Miller who is part of a talented Illini team is not short on playing time or field goal attempts as he will continue to benefit from feeding off of teammate Ayo Dosunmu.
