Opportunity awaits Creighton Basketball as they look to contend for a possible national championship.
The Creighton Bluejays have high hopes for the 2020-21 season. They have yet to reach the Sweet 16 since 1974, but the Jays have their sights set on something much greater than that milestone. The Bluejays are using their birds-eye view to scope out a National Championship.
In the last ten years with Greg McDermott at the helm, the Jays have reached new heights as far as the overall outlook of the program is concerned. They are bringing in recruits that used to never consider Creighton and have become one of the powers of the Big East Conference. The one thing that has remained elusive to the Creighton faithful? Success in March.
This year, coach McDermott has the right formula to change that sentiment. There are reasons aplenty as to why Creighton is ranked ninth in the country and have a real look at cutting down the nets in four short months. Whether it be the lack of depth, or being too reliant on the three-point shot, McDermott’s teams have always had reasons to keep the doubters talking. This year, the doubters seem to be a lot less chatty.
The Bluejays have started off the season 2-0 with wins over North Dakota State and Omaha. The game circled on the calendar for McDermott and the Jays is December 8th against the Kansas Jayhawks. This will be the first real test for the Bluejays before heading into Big East play.
Here’s a look at why Creighton has a real chance at being in the hunt for their very first National Championship in 2021.
