Duquesne Basketball: Duke land former Pittsbugh guard Ryan Murphy
The Atlantic 10 Conference continues to boost its talent as Pitt transfer Ryan Murphy will join Duquesne Basketball.
Ryan Murphy, who led Pitt in 3-point shooting last season, will be joining the Duquesne Dukes basketball team. His commitment to Duquesne means that he will have spent time with four different program throughout his collegiate career.
The 6-foot-2 guard started his career at Charlotte and then transferred to New Mexico Junior College for one season before landing with Pittsburgh. After announcing his departure from Pitt, Murphy initially planned to go to Tulane but, he decided to turn pro instead. When his plans of turning pro were struck by the COVID-19 pandemic, he decided to return back to college for his final year of eligibility.
Murphy led the Panthers 3-pointers with 42 made and 3-point shooting percentage with .331 in 2019-20. In 30 games, he started 12 games and averaged 7.6 points, 1.9 rebounds and 1.2 assists per game.
Murphy has 16 career Division 1 double-digit scoring games, including 11 which came last season at Pitt. He came off the bench to score a career-high 28 points vs. Nicholls State.
Murphy joins an already talented team in the Atlantic 10 conference. Coach Keith Dambrot will have a lot of options this season. Duquesne will look for star-power in guys like Sincere Carry, Marcus Weathers, and Michael Hughes. The Dukes will benefit from adding Murphy into the mix of talented players.
“Ryan is an experienced player who is game-tested,” said Dambrot. “He just wants to get better every day and he felt our place was a good fit for him. He contacted us and expressed his interest. We look forward to having him as part of our team.”
Murphy will be eligible to join the Dukes on Dec. 11. The Dukes will travel to Richmond on Dec. 19 to take on the No. 19 Spiders. We can expect Ryan Murphy to make his debut with the Dukes and certainly make an impact.
