Marquette Basketball: Takeaways from upset win over No. 4 Wisconsin

Wisconsin is just the latest top-10 team to fall in this early season, losing to Marquette Basketball is a close game.

Marquette Basketball picked up a 67-65 win over fourth-ranked Wisconsin on Friday night. In a game that panned out to be an early submission for game of the year, Justin Lewis tipped in the winning bucket off a missed free throw by DJ Carton. Marquette showed a lot of really positive things in this one as they took down a Wisconsin team with incredibly high aspirations.

Marquette was led by Lewis, who had 18 points on 6-10 shooting and tagged eight assists to his name as well. Carton added a well-rounded effort with 12 points, four assists, four rebounds, and three steals. The Golden Eagles sank 20 of 28 from the charity stripe, which was nine more attempts than Wisconsin generated.

The Golden Eagles held Wisconsin to just 37% from the field and 29% from three-point range. A lot of main pieces for Wisconsin never really got it going, including star senior guard Brad Davison. Davison fouled out with four points, going 0-4 from the floor.

Wisconsin’s two leading scorers early in the season are big men Nate Reuvers and Micah Potter, who only combined for 20 points in this one. D’Mitrik Trice was the go-to guy for Wisconsin with 17 points on 6-14 shooting.
