Pac-12 Basketball: ASU on top, Washington falls in latest power ranking
How does Pac-12 Basketball look in the first two weeks of the 2020-21 season?
The Pac-12 Basketball season has got off to a start. There have been some difficulties trying to play through the Covid-19 Pandemic with several games being canceled. But let’s take a look at our early Pac-12 Power Rankings.
1. Arizona State
The Sun Devils are the top team in the early Power Rankings after starting the early season 3-1 and 1-0 in conference play. They are led by returners Remy Martin (17.3) PPG and Alonso Verge Jr (15.0) PPG and newcomers Marvin Bagley (13.0) PPG and Josh Christopher (17.5) PPG who figure to be high NBA draft picks.
The Sun Devils are an athletic, high scoring team that is averaging 84 points a game. Arizona State will need to be more consistent than what they have shown in years past if they plan on winning the league.
2. UCLA
The preseason number one in the Pac-12 media poll is off to a 2-1 start this season. UCLA last year started the season off poorly before becoming hot down the stretch and finishing 2nd in the conference. 2nd-year coach Mick Cronin has 6 players in double figures to start the season. The balanced scoring will need to continue.
Along with their performance in close games after going (6-1) in conference games decided by 5 points or less. But based on the early season results and predicting how teams will play the rest of the season. I have UCLA at number 2.
3. Oregon
The Ducks have gotten off to a 1-1 start after being picked 3rd in the preseason media poll after losing Senior All-American Payton Prichard. But returners Chris Duarte (18.0) PPG looks to take a big role along with Will Richardson who hasn’t played yet this season. Transfers Eric Williams Jr and Eugene Omoruyi have been big contributors in the early part of the season. Oregon is team number 3 in the power rankings.
4. Stanford
The Stanford Cardinal have started this season 1-2 after playing in the Maui Invitational. The Cardinal have high preseason expectations with returning Oscar da Silva and highly regarded freshmen Ziaire Williams. For Stanford to finish at the top of the Pac 12 Standings.
They will need to continue good defensive play witch according to Kenpom ranks 6th in the country. For how good Stanford is on the defensive end, they struggle at times on offense. If they look to be higher than 4th then their offense needs to improve.
