Kentucky Basketball fell to the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets this weekend. What can be taken away from this game?

Coming into this game, Kentucky Basketball was having a rough go of it. They’ve already lost to both Richmond and Kansas so far and was 1-2 heading into a neutral site matchup with Georgia Tech. Few NCAA Basketball were as desperate as the Yellow Jackets, starting out 0-2 with losses to Georgia Tech and Mercer despite having NCAA Tournament or bust aspirations.

For most of the first half, the game was fairly close, with both teams trading buckets. Freshman guard Terrence Clarke had a great first half to keep the Wildcats in the game but a flurry of made baskets by the Yellow Jackets allowed them to enter halftime with a 34-27 lead.

Then the second half happened and it was as big a disaster as one can remember since head coach John Calipari became head coach of Kentucky Basketball. Georgia Tech started to take command of the game and the Wildcats withered. They gave up a ton of turnovers (21 total in the game) and allowed the Yellow Jackets to run away in the final 20 minutes, leading as much as 20 before taking the 79-62 blowout win.

It’s one thing for Kentucky to get destroyed by Duke or North Carolina by 17 from the ACC in a given game that got away but Georgia Tech genuinely looked like the better team throughout the game, a shocking statement to make despite the various five-star talent and grad transfer arrivals.

Now at 1-3, things are starting to unravel for Kentucky Basketball. And with Notre Dame, UCLA, and Louisville coming up, it may even get worse in the next couple of weeks. Here are some specific takeaways I had from the game.
