Maryland Basketball: 3 keys to victory over Clemson in ACC/Big Ten Challenge
Maryland basketball has to control the tempo
The Terps have controlled the tempo in their games by shooting the ball at an impressive rate this year. Sure, did they have a period in the St. Peter’s game where they missed a good number of shots in a row? Yes, however, they were up by a big margin in the second half so that didn’t matter. It only matters in close games when shots need to go down. They rank seventh in the nation (56 percent) in field goal percentage
Maryland will also be able to control the tempo of the game by pushing the ball down the floor on the fast break. They have always done a good job of that. Now, they have multiple shooters on the floor so if they can’t get to the cup because Clemson recovers defensively, they can give the ball to Eric Ayala, Wiggins, Hakim Hart, or Jairus Hamilton to drain a three. So far this season, they have 51 fastbreak points.
The Terps bench production has been a major factor in all of their wins to this point. They have scored 20+ points in each game. When you can get solid production out of that group when your starters need rest, it always bodes well for the team.
