Villanova vs. Georgetown: 2020-21 college basketball game preview, TV schedule
Villanova travels to Georgetown to take on the Hoyas on Friday. It should be an exciting Big East matchup.
TV Schedule: December 11th, 7:00 pm ET. FS1
Arena: Capital One Arena in Washington D.C.
The No. 9 Villanova Wildcats’ game against the DePaul Blue Demons was postponed due to a positive COVID-19 case in DePaul’s program. The Wildcats announced that they will travel to Georgetown to take on the Hoyas at 7 p.m. on Fox Sports 1.
Patrick Ewing’s Georgetown squad (2-2) is coming off a big win over Coppin State but, could not get the job done against No. 11 West Virginia. They will have to rely on their two seniors on Friday; Jahvon Blair and JaMorko Pickett. Outside of those two players, the majority of the team consists of freshman and graduate transfers who are new to the program.
This is an essentially new Hoyas team that lost several key players last season. However, Ewing has a lot to work with that will help develop the future of this program and provide experience for the newcomers. One of those experienced players is Jalen Harris. Harris played the last two seasons at Arkansas and should be a key contributor to the Hoyas’ backcourt. Through four games Harris is averaging 5.5 points and 6.0 assists per game.
Villanova (3-1) has been great so far this season. This group is so talented and that has really shown through the four games they have played so far. The Wildcats might arguably have one if not the best backcourts in all of college basketball. The Wildcats have sophomore Justin Moore and senior Collin Gillespie manning those spots.
I believe the Wildcats have an even better frontcourt this season with sophomore Jeremiah Robinson-Earl and senior Jermaine Samuels. Robinson-Earl is averaging 16.2 points and 9.0 rebounds per game. The 6-foot-9 forward is shooting 53.8 percent from the field this season. Aside from Robinson- Earl, coach Jay Wright has several options to go to contribute on both sides of the court which makes this team so good.
Villanova is a deep team that can certainly make a deep run come March. They should have no problem taking down the Hoyas on Friday night in what will be an exciting Big East challenge. The Hoyas have a lot of identity searching to do as they did bring several new faces to their program and the season is still young. If Ewing can get the Hoyas’ chemistry to flow, they may have an upset in them, however, it will take a lot to stop Jeremiah Robinson-Earl.
