Mike White’s game plan

It is a tired narrative, but it has become trendy to suggest 2017 SEC Coach of the Year Mike White is unable to utilize his players properly. The ‘hot take’ to tweet, is one concerning how Coach White is not letting his talent actually play basketball. As Henry Ford once said “You can’t build a reputation on what you are going to do”, but when it comes to Coach White people will not even let him build on what he is currently doing.

Currently Coach White is coaching the third-ranked team in the SEC in concerns to the Simple Rating System (SRS), which is a rating that takes into account average point differential and strength of schedule. Coach White currently has Florida Basketball as the third-highest scoring offense in the SEC, better than Missouri and Tennesse who have a higher SRS.

Florida’s Pace of Play is not only averaging eight possessions more per game than last season. but in 2020-21 they are currently fifth in the SEC, and less than possession per game from being third.

If that is not enough to get #doyoucoachwhite trending, the Gators attempt 58 field goals per game, which is sixth-most in the SEC and three more than last season. All this adds up to averaging 84 points per game, up from 66 last season. If having the third-leading scorer in the SEC getting you points is not impressive enough, wait for them to play the Seminoles who they scored just 51 against last season, and then compare.
