The NCAA basketball season is getting in conference play, but not before we had a crazy few weeks to start the season. We take a look at the eight biggest takeaways from the past week.

We knew this year was going to be crazy with the COVID protocols and reduced schedules, but even with that, this NCAA Basketball season has been weird. We have had top ten teams suffer huge upsets. We have a blue blood that is really struggling and we still have almost 100 teams that haven’t lost. But some of those 100 haven’t even played a game yet.

If we have learned anything about sports during this pandemic is to expect the unexpected. This week was no different. Even with all the unexpected, there is still some normalcy and we will get into that in a bit.

We can go on and on about how weird this season is and will be, but instead, we will get right into the either biggest takeaways from the past week in college basketball

1. The West is more than just Gonzaga

Gonzaga is good, really really good. They are arguably the best team in the country and are currently ranked number one. They look the part and could finally get that elusive national championship this year, but they aren’t the only ones that can play some basketball out west.

In case you forgot about them San Diego State is pretty good. Last year they lost just one regular-season game and it came at the very end of the year. Our very own Joey Loose became a hit with the Aztecs because of his maps and this year has been no different.

The Aztecs are once again undefeated and have beat two ranked PAC 12 teams by double-digits. The latest was a 12-point win over an Arizona State team that thought they were the best team in that conference.

The Aztecs might not be as good as the Zags, but they still have a very good team and you need to pay attention to them again this year.
