Kansas Basketball: 3 takeaways from Jayhawks win over No. 14 Texas Tech
By Andrew Tineo
1. Kansas struggled in getting second-chance points
In a game where the offense was expected to be limited, having second-chance opportunities would be among the most important. Yet it was Kansas that could not get an offensive rebound. They only got one point off second-chance opportunities and only seven offensive rebounds in total.
One of the biggest keys coming into the game was using the height mismatch that the Jayhawks had with McCormack, Wilson, and Mitch Lightfoot. The Red Raiders beat them through hustle and better alignment on the court when the ball went up.
The offensive production is certainly not up to standard and the void is apparent down low. Wilson and McCormack combined for 5-14 shooting from the floor and had seven turnovers between the two. This was a game where only two players from each team had good games. The forwards let Tech drive at times and against better guards, will make Kansas pay.
When Kansas has to play the likes of Baylor or Texas and has to play against seasoned veteran backcourts with depth, it could become a legit issue. In a game with the height advantage, the expectation is to dominate the glass. Although they won it 41-35, they gave the Red Raiders too many extra chances.
