After an entertaining weekend of college hoops, here are three big takeaways from an action-packed couple days of NCAA Basketball.

A great weekend of NCAA Basketball saw number one Gonzaga and number three Iowa go through what was a heavyweight bout on Saturday afternoon. The Zags felt in control as they continued to fend off comeback attempt after comeback attempt from a really good Hawkeyes team.

Louisville caught a right hook right out of the gate from Wisconsin and never recovered in what ended up as a 40 point blowout win for the Badgers. Louisville’s leading scorer Carlik Jones was absent.

Kentucky fell to 1-5 and Ohio State got a big win against UCLA in EJ Lidell’s return for the Buckeyes. Western Kentucky got a nice win over Alabama and have likely done enough to secure themselves an at large big assuming the Hilltoppers don’t fall apart in conference play.

Jumping to Sunday UConn took Creighton to overtime in the Huskies first game in three weeks. James Bouknight put the nation on notice with his 40 point performance, the Huskies are truly going to be a problem in the Big East. Speaking of Big East, Xavier hit a buzzer-beater over Marquette to move to 8-0, that start by the Musketeers has them in the conversation in what looks like a deep Big East conference.

Can’t forget about Northwestern and their dominant upset over number four Michigan State, The Wildcats move to 4-1 and hand the Spartans their first loss of the season.

Lots of action to unpack but for this piece, we’ll focus on Jalen Suggs and his skyrocketing NBA Draft stock, Kentucky’s early-season woes as well as the importance of Carlik Jones for the Louisville Cardinals.
