Florida State Seminoles
The Seminoles only scoring guards on the roster are senior leading scorer MJ Walker (15.3 ppg) and freshman star Scottie Barnes, who each are likely not around after this season. There’s no other guard on the roster currently averaging more than five points per game, so there will be a need for the team to add proven shooters for next season.
That’s particularly true after losing five-star shooting guard prospect Bryce McGowens to the Nebraska Cornhuskers in the 2021 class. They still have another five-star guard in Jalen Warley, along with wing Matthew Cleveland. But Coach Leonard Hamilton and Florida State always want veterans playing a key role in the offense, so adding Mills would make some sense there.
Minnesota Golden Gophers
I wanted to look for a team to possibly come out of nowhere in this recruitment that has a history with transfers. And Minnesota fits that bill, as they’re going to need a new lead guard once Marcus Carr (22.1 ppg and 5.9 apg) departs this offseason. The free-flowing offense Coach Richard Pitino runs could help maximize Mills’ potential and give him a lead role for the Gophers.
Unless Jamal Mashburn Jr. becomes a breakout star, Minnesota will need a new guard with some experience to keep them in contention in the difficult Big Ten. I’m not sure if Mills would have any interest if they reached out but based on the last offseason, look for Coach Pitinto to venture into the portal again.
