Detroit Mercy in league play

Detroit Mercy began Horizon conference play with a 23-point home loss against Wright State. They had a quick turnaround and played the Raiders the following day and played more competitive basketball as they were only down three points at the half but ended up losing to Wright State by 13. The Titans were scheduled to play IUPUI but the games were canceled and because Oakland’s games against Northern Kentucky were canceled as well, the Horizon League decided that Detroit Mercy would host Oakland.

As mentioned before, the Titans played well in two very hard-fought games in their matchup against Oakland and were in the first game when they were leading by six at the half before losing to Oakland by two in overtime, and in the second game they ended up losing to the Golden Grizzlies by only three. After two heartbreaking losses, UDM was looking forward to getting on the winning track after starting conference play winless at 0-4.

However, the next four games for the Titans were canceled as they had been scheduled to travel and play two games at UIC and then the following weekend go on the road again to play at Milwaukee for two games as well. Detroit Mercy and their head coach Mike Davis would end up hosting Green Bay this past weekend and it ended up being a success.

In the first game against Green Bay, the Titans won by double digits with a final score of 86-61 giving Detroit Mercy their first conference win of the season. The big test would come as could UDM follow an impressive victory with another win against the Phoenix for the series sweep? The Titans would end up winning and completing the series sweep by defeating Green Bay by three points in a defensive fought victory for UDM.

The head coach’s son, Junior Antoine Davis had an outstanding game with seven 3-pointers and finished with 30 points in the victory. UDM after starting conference play 0-4 was able to earn two solid wins prior to yet again, another match up against their main rivals Oakland.
