ACC Basketball: Georgia Tech, Pittsburgh rises in latest power rankings
4. Louisville Cardinals (9-3, 4-2)
The Cardinals have been struggling of late, losing two in a row heading into the weekend. The latest came by 13 points against Florida State, despite four players scoring in double figures. Guards David Johnson and Carlik Jones continue to play well but we’re seeing for the first time the preseason injuries to Malik Williams and Charles Minlend hurting their overall depth now in league play.
A huge matchup awaits Louisville on Saturday against Duke, part of a tough stretch of games. One player they’ll need to perform more consistently is Samuell Williamson, who has yet to have back-to-back games of at least eight points.
3. Virginia Tech Hokies (11-2, 5-1)
The Hokies are on a three-game winning streak, taking care of Duke, Notre Dame, and most recently, Wake Forest. They were led in that victory with 20 points from Tyrece Radford, along with 13 points off the bench each from David N’Guessan and Hunter Catoor. They made up for Keve Aluma (5 points), who is in a little slump since the start of the new year.
Virginia Tech will need Aluma to step up in the coming weeks, as they have four of five coming up on the road, including Notre Dame and Syracuse soon. Along with Pittsburgh, the Hokies have been arguably the biggest surprise in the ACC so far. Can they keep it up or will they start to get exposed by the away matchups in league play?
