Believe it or not, there was a time in this game that the Hokies looked to be taking control. After a poor start in which we saw Nahiem Alleyne score all but one of Virginia Tech Basketball’s points. The Hokies had seemed to have taken control of the game. And with 6:51 left in the first half, the Hokies were on an 11-0 run and had taken a 26-21 lead. After that everything went downhill for Tech.

The Hokies then got outscored 19-8 for the rest of the half by the Orange. And at the end of the first half though the Hokies were still only down 40-34. It just got even worse from there. Syracuse outscored Virginia Tech 38-26 in the second half and beat the Hokies with a final score of 78-60.

The No. 16 Hokies drop to 11-3 (5-2) while Syracuse improves to 9-4 (3-3). The Orange needed this game more when it came to Bracketology, although this was a missed opportunity for Virginia Tech to stay right near the top of the ACC standings.

Nahiem Alleye led the Hokies in scoring with 20 points and freshman David N’Guessan had 10 points. While sophomore Quincy Guerrier led the Orange with 20 points and senior Marek Dolezaj added 18 points.

This game looked like it was going to be very competitive at halftime and then Virginia Tech basically just collapsed.

Here are my three takeaways from Syracuse’s blowout win.
