Virginia Tech’s shooting performance was horrid

To say Virginia Tech’s shooting was bad today is an understatement. The Hokies shot 32% from the field, shot 27% from three, and shot 70% from the free throw line. Mike Young’s main offensive system is known for shooting threes. And one thing that was different about the Hokies from last year is that they could find other ways to score the basketball without hitting the three-ball.

This was surely not the case today. Besides Nahiem Alleyne and Tyrece Radford, every player on the Hokies struggled from three. And the two biggest concerns out of that are Hunter Cattoor and Jalen Cone. Who combined for 2-13 from three and 2-14 from the floor.

Another thing that I think needs to be changed is Cattoor playing backup point guard. I know that this was caused by Cartier Diarra opting out of the season. But I think that ball-handling duties when Bede goes out of the game point should be regulated to Jalen Cone. And at 5″10, point guard is his natural position. Which will allow Catoor to back to shooting guard.

Bottom line is that if the Hokies want to win more games in ACC play, they have to shoot better. And if they have more shooting performances like this look for the Hokies to struggle in ACC play.
