After just under six seasons of serving as their head coach, Jeff Neubauer has been fired by Fordham Basketball. Neubauer played college basketball at La Salle under Speedy Morris before beginning his coaching career nearly thirty years ago.

After getting his career started at The Citadel, he later spent nearly a decade on the staffs of John Beilein at both Richmond and West Virginia. His head coaching career began in 2005, where he’d spend a decade leading Eastern Kentucky, taking them to a pair of NCAA Tournament appearances.

In his time at Fordham, the Rams greatly underachieved and never finished in the top half of the Atlantic 10. They finished at the very bottom of the league in each of Neubauer’s last three seasons and were just 1-7 in this his final year at the helm. Neubauer led the Rams to the CIT after a 17-14 premiere campaign but it was all downhill from there and he was never able to turn around the program.

Among the current programs in the A10, Fordham is certainly the lowest on the totem pole. That being said, there’s plenty of reasons why the right coach can make this program successful. The Rams have only made four NCAA Tournament appearances, with the most recent coming in 1992, but in a multi-bid league like the A10, there’s plenty of room for growth in the future.

With Neubauer now in the past, Fordham will look towards the future to find their next head coach. With a prime location in New York City, which is rich in basketball talent, and their presence in what is the nation’s best mid-major conference, this job is actually more attractive than it seems at initial glance. The new coach will have their work cut out for them, but turning around Fordham is far less an impossible task than it seems.

We’re going to run through a number of potential candidates for the opening. This is not an all-inclusive list and this is simply initial speculation. Without further ado, let’s start running through some of these names.
