Tim O’Toole

The last name we’re going to evaluate is a bit of an unusual candidate. O’Toole is someone who was mentioned as a possibility for the Fordham job last year, but obviously, Neubauer was retained until now. If Fordham goes with someone like O’Toole, then they’d be bringing aboard a former D1 head coach with plenty of high-level assistant coaching experience, including a stint with the Rams.

After playing at Fairfield, O’Toole’s coaching career began at Fordham way back in 1988. O’Toole has spent time at several D1 schools, including stints under Mike Krzyzewski at Duke and Jim Boeheim at Syracuse. He spent eight years as Fairfield’s head coach, with his final record just under .500 during his tenure. He’s been a member of Jeff Capel’s staff at Pittsburgh for the last three seasons.

O’Toole is another New York native with familiarity both with Fordham and in leading a program. It’s fair to wonder if bringing back someone like O’Toole would be a smart move, as he hasn’t been a head coach in 15 years, but he’s certainly a name to consider. It’s very possible that Fordham wants someone with plenty of experience, and there just aren’t that many candidates with O’Toole’s unique mix of qualifications.

Furthermore, any of these ten men could find themselves as candidates to replace Jeff Neubauer as the next head coach at Fordham, but it could easily be somebody else. Who do you think is going to take over the Fordham program and do they have what it takes to actually compete in the talented A10?
