Notre Dame Basketball: 3 takeaways from blowout win over Pittsburgh
Notre Dame Basketball came into this matchup against Pittsburgh after an ugly home performance Wednesday night against Virginia Tech as they lost 62-51. The score may not look that bad, but it was a rough night for the Irish. The loss to the Hokies on Wednesday sure did not affect how they played on Saturday.
Notre Dame (6-9, 3-6 ACC) played their best game from start to finish as they beat the Pittsburgh Panthers (8-5, 4-4 ACC) on the road 84-58.
Notre Dame scored 51 points, a season-low against Virginia Tech on Wednesday night in South Bend. Saturday against Pittsburgh they had over 51 points just five minutes into the second half. Everything was clicking for coach Mike Brey and Notre Dame. They shot the ball well, battled on the glass for rebounds, and also only had seven turnovers.
Pittsburgh has now lost three in a row since their big home victory against the Duke Blue Devils less than two weeks ago. Any chance of an at-large bid is fading rather quickly for the Panthers.
One Panther player that did show up for Pittsburgh against Notre Dame was their star Justin Champagnie. When healthy the sophomore guard really has delivered for the Panthers night in, and night out. Justin Champagnie scored 19 points and had 11 rebounds. Champagnie has now recorded a double-double in seven out of eleven games he has suited up this year.
Here are three takeaways for Notre Dame in their win over Pittsburgh.
