Big 12 Basketball power rankings: Oklahoma climbs after SEC invasion
By Andrew Tineo
It’s one of the most exciting challenges over the course of the College Basketball season. It premiered over the weekend and featured a slew of single-digit games from Big 12 Basketball and the SEC.
From a combined 200 points, two game-winners, and a massive upset from the Big 12. Some of the Top 25 rankings are as of Saturday and are not updated to the Sunday release of the rankings.
Here’s a look at the Big 12 Power Rankings, heading into February.
Previous games: 60-81 loss vs. Oklahoma State, 56-95 loss at. Mississippi State.
Next games: Tuesday vs. No. 11 West Virginia, Saturday at. No. 24 Oklahoma.
The clear rebuilding year for the Cyclones hit an all-time low over the week. The Cyclones started their week with a 21 point loss against a Cade Cunningham-less Cowboys. The Cyclones had their own issues with COVID players as only seven players were available for Iowa State.
Rasir Bolton and Tyler Harris led the way for Iowa State as they combined for 37 of the team’s 60 points.
The frontcourt of Oklahoma State had an efficient day, with the lack of height on the Cyclones side. Matthew Moncrieffe and Kalib Boone combined for 37 points on 18-24 shooting and 20 rebounds.
Iowa State had a few players return for their Mississippi State game on Saturday. However, it did not matter as the Cyclones shot 4-24 from beyond the arc and had 21 turnovers. The Cyclones let Mississippi State shoot 50 percent from the field and had four players in double figures.
Iowa State is in clear refresh and the only hope the Cyclones have at victory is a potential rematch with Kansas State. Until that point, I don’t see Iowa State making any moves in the Big 12 Power Rankings.
