Unfortunately, WCC Basketball overall is going through another rough stretch, with four programs currently going through a pause due to covid-related issues. The good news is that the top teams are still playing and giving fans something to see.

For a current look at the conference as we head into February, here’s how each of the 10 teams ranks amongst one another.

10. Portland Pilots (6-10, 0-7)

In the midst of a six-game losing steak, the Pilots rattled off two more losses last week. Against San Diego, the Pilots stayed competitive and only lost the game by eight points. Two days later, the Pilots went up against Loyola Marymount who won by 25 points.

In their last game, the Pilots only reached the charity stripe twice. In their previous 15 games, the University of Portland averaged 23 free throw attempts per game. Further, they only tallied 13 rebounds (one offensive) in a game dominated by the Lions. The Pilots will travel to Brigham Young for their only game of the week on Thursday.

543. . 2-7 (1-4). . Toreros . 9. team

The Toreros, like the rest of the West Coast Conference, suffered a humiliating loss against top-ranked Gonzaga to end their week. The Bulldogs handed the Toreros a 28-point loss. Prior to the Saturday game, the Toreros took on Portland the Saturday prior. The Toreros won their second game of the season after going through two different elongated pauses similar to that of the Pacific Tigers.

Senior Guard Josh Parrish led the Toreros with a season-high 20 points on 9-11 shooting. Parrish added eight rebounds, two steals, and three blocks in the contest against the University of Portland.

San Diego has a busy week as they’re scheduled to have three games; Tuesday against BYU, Thursday at Pepperdine, and Saturday against Pacific. If San Diego can pull off two out of three, they may be able to turn their season around. It is a heavy lift for San Diego but not impossible.
