Just when the Bears seem to be deemed on upset alert, they showcase why they deserve the No.1 overall ranking. Baylor went on the road to face No. 6 Texas, who is ranked the second-best team in the conference standings.

Behind elite guard play, the Bears would outlast the Longhorns. Baylor got 27 points from Davion Mitchell, who has played like the Bears most important player. They were behind for just two minutes of the game and the Texas lead never got over two points. The nation’s leading three-point shooting continued, with 52.4 percent from beyond the arc on Monday.

As they’ve done all year, they caved in on the Longhorns like a Boa constrictor, suffocating its prey. After Texas grabbed a 47-45 lead, Baylor would outscore Texas 38-22 the rest of the way.

The question for the Bears is not whether they can win the conference. It’s whether they can finish the slate, unblemished. Easier said than done as the Bears still have to play everyone again except Kansas State. Add on a two-game back-to-back with West Virginia and they have more work to do.
