St. John’s Red Storm

There is arguably no team in college basketball that had a better Sunday-Saturday than St. John’s. The Red Storm went 3-0 during the week by picking up three big victories, which included two close road wins, and an upset over a top 5 team which brought St. John’s current win streak to six in a row.

While St. John’s did pick up three wins this week, there was undoubtedly no bigger than a 70-59 home victory against #3 Villanova. The Red Storm held Villanova to 32.3% shooting from the field in the process of handing the Wildcats their first loss of Big East play.

The Red Storm also picked up two road victories this week; a 75-73 win at Marquette and a 92-81 win at Providence. St. John’s was led this week by sophomore guard Julian Champagnie who averaged 20 points and 10 rebounds per game, and freshman guard Posh Alexander who averaged 17 points per game during the Red Storm’s three wins.

St. John’s now sits at 13-7 overall, and currently sits sixth in the Big East in 7-6. In the latest Bracketology update by ESPN’s Joe Lunardi, St. John’s currently sits on the Bubble in the “Next Four Out”, but could see itself move into the “First Four Out” with its win over Providence.
