Since 2002, KenPom has become the most analytical source in ranking teams, based on adjusted offensive and defensive efficiency, Luck, etc. Out of the past 10 years, Baylor Basketball ranks as the third-best team. Unfortunately for the Bears, they are second in that category this year, behind No. 1 Gonzaga.

The Bears have won every game by at least eight. That is the second-longest streak since UNLV’s 18 game streak with that margin of victory in 1991-1992.

They have done it through elite guard play, consistent hustle, and among the best defenses in the country. The most obvious playmakers on the team are the trio of Jared Butler, MaCio Teague, and Davion Mitchell. However, the key to the new level of success has been the newcomers.

Among the biggest questions for the Bears heading into the season was the departure of Freddie Gillespie. He averaged 9.6 points and nine rebounds per game and is currently playing in the G-League. His presence low plus losing sixth man Devante Bandoo, who led the team in three-point shooting last year was needed in Waco.

Both of those questions have been answered with UNLV transfer Johnathan Tchamwa-Tchatchoua and Presbyterian’s Adam Flagler. Flagler is one of five players for Baylor that consistently plays and shoots 40 percent or better from beyond the arc.

Even when the Bears do seem dominant, there are stretches where Baylor does not look like themselves. Since conference play, the Bears have trailed at some point in four of their nine contests, including a nine-point deficit to Oklahoma State.

Once the drought ends, however, Baylor closes a game as well as Mariano Rivera in his prime. Like a Boa constrictor slowly creeping to its prey. Any other analogy near those is acceptable in describing the Bears over the final 10 minutes of a game.

Baylor is currently under quarantine and isn’t expected to play until February 20 against Oklahoma State in Waco. Until then, let’s take a look at the five teams that can break the Bears’ undefeated streak.
