469. . . . Mountaineers . 2. team

It’s a hot potato with four teams as to which team has the best chance at beating Baylor and making the Big 12 title closer. Over the past two weeks, West Virginia has risen and has been playing its best basketball at the right time.

West Virginia is also the only team Baylor has not played. Their first matchup got postponed and their attempted rescheduled game also has been postponed and was intended to be played next week. Instead, the Mountaineers stay as the most likely team in the Big 12 to beat the Bears.

After losing Oscar Tshiebwe to Kentucky, the Mountaineers’ placement in the Big 12 was uncertain. Since then, West Virginia has found a rhythm. West Virginia has won five of their last six games, including a sweep of Texas Tech and a 12-point win over Kansas.

Sean McNeil has become a legit three-point threat for West Virginia, after a career-high 26 points against No. 7 Texas Tech. He made 5-7 from beyond the arc.

Miles McBride has become the team’s leader and Taz Sherman’s play over the past few weeks have been fantastic. Sherman is shooting 40 percent from beyond the arc and is coming off his best performance of his career.

Sherman scored 25 points against Kansas, on 9 of 17 shooting from the field, including hitting four three-pointers.

The Mountaineers are the hottest team in the conference right now and have guards that can match up against Baylor really well.
