14. Saint Joseph’s Hawks

  • 2020-21 record: 1-14 overall, 0-9 A-10
  • Previous ranking: 14th

Things continue to go horrendously for the Saint Joseph’s Hawks, now losers of six-straight since their 67-64 nailbiting win over Albany back on January 9th.  When the last edition of these rankings was released, the Hawks were coming off back-to-back losses to George Mason – and now, are coming off blowouts at the hands of Richmond and Duquesne.

Still without Ryan Daly – the A-10’s leading scorer last season – Billy Lange’s crew have now been forced to operate without Jack Forrest, who has been a substantial source of offense for the Hawks, reaching double-digits in six of the Hawks’ 20 games.

Not much went gone well for Saint Joseph’s in their latest two outings, to say the least.  The Hawks have been abysmal offensively – scoring just 0.81 points per possession against Richmond and 0.76 against Richmond – while maintaining combined shooting clips of 20-58 (2PT, 34.5%) and 16-52 (3PT, 30%) while turning the ball over 14.5 times across both games.

It hasn’t been that great defensively, either, with the Hawks allowing Duquesne and Richmond to shoot a combined 53.8% (42-78) inside.  If there has been any positive for Saint Joseph’s in their last two outings, it is that Taylor Funk has reached double-digits in both games, averaging 12.5 points and 6.5 rebounds against the Dukes and Spiders.

The Hawks are one of the A-10 teams currently on pause, with their last game – the Duquesne tilt – coming on January 30th.  Subsequent games against St. Bonaventure, La Salle, and Dayton have all been postponed – and Saint Joseph’s is set to return on February 17th, heading to a George Washington club that has also been on pause.
