Takeaways from Sunday’s Game

Drake 51 – Loyola 50

Overtime with both teams at 45 points sums up the quality of play we saw in the second game of the weekend. Loyola looked like they put the game away going up by as much as ten before Drake clawed their way back in and completely shut down the Ramblers on the defensive end.

Loyola scored just three points over the final 7:44 of regulation, they relied heavily on Kameron Krutwig and Uguak as Loyola continued to pound the ball and take advantage of size matchups that they could get. Loyola was dominant again on the boards and was looking to take advantage of second-chance points but it just did not seem like Loyola could get anything to fall.

Tremell Murphy and DJ Wilkins were much better in game two but the horrid three-point shooting for the Bulldogs continued as they shot just 3-19 from beyond the arc. Drake was again well below their season average in points per game of 80 with a season-low again of 51 but it was enough to get the job done.

Some huge blocks and steals down the stretch for Drake helped them stay in the game in a gutsy win for the Bulldogs. Drake was outrebounded 47-31 yet were able to continue to get stops when it mattered. Loyola put up just 50 points including overtime, which was easily their lowest-scoring game of the season.
