Head coach Sean Miller has a great history of landing international prospects, including the recent 2020 class. 6’11 freshman forward Azuolas Tubelis has been the most impressive of the group, averaging 11.7 ppg and 6.3 rpg, the ladder being good for first on the team. His early development makes him a candidate to go pro early after next season or the year after.

And when you consider that Ira Lee is graduating and that both Jordan Brown and Christian Koloko are more rotation players, there’s a clear spot for Boakye to get playing time, regardless of what class he comes in.

But when it comes to Arizona, the elephant in the closet is the program’s issues with the NCAA. They just recently self-imposed a postseason ban, making them unable to play in the 2021 NCAA Tournament. That doesn’t mean that the NCAA is done with them, as they could very well hand out even more punishments, including scholarship reductions and a potential future postseason ban.

The timeline of this recruitment will likely determine whether or not the Wildcats have a chance with Boakye. This dark cloud isn’t going anywhere with the program and there are other programs without any issues. While playing time could be there, the off-the-court concerns make them a current longshot.
