The ACC always provides NCAA Basketball with a bevy of talented freshman players. In the 2018-19 season, Boston College had one in Wynston Tabbs, a former three-star prospect in the 2018 class, averaged 13.9 ppg and 2.7 apg in just 15 games played.

Unfortunately, injuries have played a big role in the guard’s career. Tabbs missed the entire 2019-20 season after surgery on his knee. He’s been healthy this year but due to covid pauses and now a season-ending suspension, the 6’2 guard’s 2020-21 campaign is now over as well. Tabbs finished with 13.3 ppg on 40% shooting from three-point range on nearly six attempts a night.

Considering that head coach Jim Christian is now gone and sophomore guard Jay Heath has emerged into a reliable scorer and contributor in his own right, it’s understandable why Tabbs would elect for a new start and enter the transfer portal.

Whether the NCAA opts to pass the one-time blanket waiver rule or not for all transfers, expect there to be a ton of teams interested in a power conference double-digit scorer who can shoot well from the deep. The injuries are a cause for concern but assuming he wants to play for a potential winner next year, Tabbs won’t be asked to do too much.

With former Houston Cougar guard Caleb Mills off the board and on to Florida State, Tabbs is now the top guard in the NCAA Basketball transfer portal. Among the programs looking to add a guard for the 2020-21 season, here are eight to keep an eye on in the coming weeks.
