10. Butler Bulldogs (7-13, 6-11 Big East)

The Bulldogs have been reliant on their defense to keep them in games all season long. However, on Saturday, February 13th Butler’s defense allowed Georgetown to make 11 three-point shots for the Hoyas to win 78-63.

The main struggles facing Butler this season which include scoring and rebounding, both showed up against Georgetown. The Bulldogs went 23-for-59 from the floor (39 percent) and were outrebounded by Georgetown on the glass 38-20.

In their last game, Butler held Xavier to just 2-for-19 from the perimeter, but the Bulldogs could not get their offense going. Butler shot just 29.5 percent from the floor and lost 63-51.

Butler was without three of their starters against Xavier due to injury. Missing were senior point guard, Aaron Thompson (10.4 ppg, 4.7 apg, 51.8 FG percent), senior forward, Bryce Nze (10.7 ppg, 7.7 rpg), and senior guard, Bo Hodges (9.8 ppg, 7.2 rpg).

In their victory over St. John’s on February 9th, Thompson posted a double double with 17 points and 10 assists, while going 6-for-11 (54.5 percent). Thompson was also a major factor scoring a game-high 17 points in Butler’s upset victory over Creighton in January. The Bulldogs were missing their most efficient scorers this season against Xavier on Sunday.

Three more games remain on the conference schedule for Butler. Next up for the Bulldogs will be three teams that are all currently listed in the NCAA Tournament field. Butler will host Seton Hall on Wednesday and will then host Villanova on Saturday. The Bulldogs will close out their season on Saturday, March 6th at Creighton.
