The Pepperdine Waves had a light week with one game at Santa Clara. Coming off of a three-game winning streak, the Waves crashed and lost by four points. It is a detrimental loss for Pepperdine which was striving to move up the conference rankings and could have with a win against Santa Clara.

Senior guard Colbey Ross attempted to put the team on his back and had himself a great game. However, it just was not enough. In 40 minutes of game time, Ross scored 26 points, tallied six assists, and three rebounds on 64.3% shooting.

The Waves will finish off their season with a busy week; they travel to Saint Mary’s, followed by a home contest against Loyola Marymount, and another away game to close out the season against San Diego on Saturday, February 27th.

3. Loyola-Marymount Lions (11-7, 6-4)

The Loyola Marymount Lions were running on a four-game win streak until they came up against the second-best team in the conference; Brigham Young. BYU dispatched the Lions by 17 points. However, all news was not bad news for Loyola Marymount this week. They tallied two away wins against Santa Clara and San Francisco.

Loyola, like other teams in the conference, experienced a break in basketball activities from January 25th until February 13th. The Lions’ players and staff’s response and resilience should be commended. As they came back, they won three straight games before running into a top-tier team.

Loyola Marymount will try to make some news this week finishing out their season with two away games against Pepperdine and Gonzaga respectively.
